Somebody will get their life back this week. You can make sure it costs them nothing.
A lost ID card means weeks of queues, missed work and doors that will not open. Recup hands it back in hours — free, for everyone, for good. That promise runs on donations and nothing else.
What your money does
Three things, the day your money lands
This is not a hosting bill with a story attached. Two of the three put money straight into a Cameroonian's hands so that something lost finds its way home.
You pay the pledge they cannot
She has proved the bag is hers. He is willing to hand it over. Between them sits a pledge of 5,000 FCFA that neither of them has, and a recovery that was minutes away simply stops. Your donation closes that gap by mobile money, one case at a time — and somebody walks home with their papers because of it.
You keep the honest ones coming back
Nothing is ever found again until somebody bothers to post it: their time, their data bundle, photographs of a thing that is not even theirs. Most people will do that once. Your donation is how we thank the ones who do it again and again — until handing back a stranger's wallet is simply what people here do.
You put a human being on the other end
A claim stalls. Somebody goes quiet holding a stranger's wallet. A drop-off point shuts early. Every one of those needs a person, not a feature — and your donation is what pays for the people who pick up.
Why it is free
Charge for this and you lose the very people it exists for
Picture who loses an ID card, a school certificate, a phone holding every number they own. Now picture who can spare 2,000 FCFA to get it back before payday. They are almost never the same person.
The card was never the real cost
It is the day of work gone, the queue, the fees, the weeks of being unable to prove you exist. Somebody already paying all of that should not pay again to reach the stranger who found it.
A fee would stop the finders too
Nobody picks up a stranger's wallet and then pays for the right to hand it back. Charge either side and the honest half of this stops happening overnight.
Free is what keeps us straight
We take nothing from a recovery, so we have no reason to push anybody into one. No sponsored listings. No priority claims. No quiet reason to weaken a privacy gate in order to close a deal.
What it costs
Almost nothing today. Real money the day it works.
Free tiers carry this for now. Every cost below lands at exactly the moment more people start depending on it — which is the moment we can least afford to be caught short.
A domain name
Due whether one person uses the site or a hundred thousand do.
Room above the free limits
More items posted means more photographs stored and more pages served. Success is the thing that breaks this.
Messages that actually arrive
People here open WhatsApp far more often than a mailbox, and an update nobody reads is a recovery that dies in silence. Every WhatsApp and SMS costs money, and it is the single biggest thing we could buy.
No targets here and no progress bar. When there is a full year of real spending to show, it goes up on this page in full.
Every gift at work
This is what we have built together
Every franc below is already working — paying a pledge somebody could not afford, thanking a finder who gave up their afternoon, and keeping the whole thing free for the next person who loses their papers.

Your bank will almost certainly charge a fee on an international transfer, and it comes out of the amount that reaches us — worth knowing before you choose how much to send.
Would you like your name on the wall? Say so in the transfer note, and it appears beside your gift.
After you send
Tell us it is on the way
Nothing on this page takes your money — you send it from your own phone or bank, and we match it by hand. Telling us takes a moment, and it turns an unexplained transfer into a gift we can thank you for.
We will never ask you for money to release an item
No fee. No deposit. No “release charge”. Ever. Money reaches us here, on this page, because you chose to come. If anybody contacts you claiming to be Recup and demands payment to hand over your own property, they are robbing you. Do not pay. Tell us, and we will act.
Report it to usWhere the money goes
Counted, shown, and never mixed with a recovery
Recup is being registered as a company funded by donations rather than fees, which means the money has to be handled as though it matters. Every gift is recorded with its date, channel and amount.
- The platform never touches the money in a recovery. A pledge moves directly between the two people involved, and there is no payment system here — we could not take a share if we wanted to.
- A donation pays running costs, pledges and thanks to finders. Never features for the donor. Nothing unlocks by paying, for anybody.
- The record exists to be shown: to donors who ask, and to the funders this will one day need. An organisation that cannot account for a 1,000 FCFA gift is in no position to ask for a larger one.
- If donations ever outgrow what the platform costs, it will be said here.
Other ways to help
Cannot give money? Two of these are worth more.
Each is worth far more than it sounds, and two of them are worth more to this platform than a donation.
Post the item in your drawer
That ID card you picked up and meant to deal with. Somewhere a person has been unable to prove who they are since the day they lost it. One listing is worth more to them than any sum is to us.
Report a found itemTell one person who has lost something
Most people who lose something never learn that this exists — they simply accept it as gone. A recovery cannot happen if the owner never comes looking.
